  • Dear MEP Gaston Franco, Chair of the subgroup “Forestry” for the Intergroup “Climate
    Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development”,

It seems that this point has been forgotten since a very long time and I agree with the absolute necessity to find new and right solutions against this terribly disaster.
We know that it isn’t "hand of god" !

To give people the possibility to manage those lands will cost less than fires. Canadian example is working on since a long time now.

Of course vegetations are very different. We must consider this point as essential. But it doen’t means that we can compare those two situations.

I worked in Marseille (France) Fire Brigade for more than ten years and I was afraid by the fact that, in each forest fire, we were in front of forgotten areas, jungle ones were there was quite no life in and around. In others cases, there were pieces of land very close from buildings where people leaving there were very often at the origine of "fire treatment" as free works !

I live in VAR department, biggest one for its forest surface in France. And we are very concerned by hard sequences of wind called Mistral. Each year, fires start at the end of the day (when fire planes can’t land off) and when it’s very windy... It explain so large burned surfaces.

So and as I’m very concerned by this subject, I hope you will communicate your final decisions. It will be a pleasure to read you and, eventually, if you consider it can give you another approach, give you my personal opinion.

    Good morning.

    Regards.

    François BARDE
